Joy - LJ spammers

Lethal lagomorph
So spammers are now hitting communities where I'm either a member, or a moderator and posting suspicious links that look like YouTube videos. So far, I've had 3 of them and marked them as spam.

The weird part is, they're in posts from at least 4, and in one case 5, years ago.

[reposted post] Ella's surgery bills

Update on 9/5: Six weeks after her accident, Ella is now wandering the house and leaping up on beds and bunks and other things that need cat hair on them. She has a limp, which is probably permanent, but she's not letting that stop her. Read the full update here.

Update on 8/1: Ella is doing well! Anne got a second opinion from a surgeon, who said this type of pelvic fracture would heal better without surgery than with surgery. Ella's leg has moved back into the correct alignment, and she's getting feeling back in the leg. Anne is keeping Ella confined to a large dog crate during the day to prevent her from leaping or running and worsening the fracture. It will take four to six weeks for Ella to heal, and she'll need several more vet visits, but if things keep going as they have been, she won't need surgery.

I'll be posting Anne's updates later today. For now, you can read them directly on her Facebook.

The amazing outpouring of support you all have shown Ella enabled Anne to get a second opinion that she otherwise wouldn't have been able to get. She says, "I don't have to go with 'if it was my cat I wouldn't bother.'" It's also covering vet visits, painkillers, and all the other things that an extended injury brings. Anne isn't going to make a final reckoning until Ella is well and truly out of the woods, but right now, it looks like your donations will more than cover the rest of Ella's care.

Thank you all so much. Your generosity on behalf of Miss Ella is wondrous and staggering. As a personal friend of the little grey lady, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

This is Ella.

On Thursday night, Ella came home dragging herself by her forelegs. Anne rushed her to the emergency animal hospital. This is Ella's pelvis...
Ella's pelvis

...which is not supposed to look like that.

It will cost $1500 to $4500 to get medical care for Ella's broken pelvis--$1500 to amputate her leg, $4500 to pin the bone and save her leg. Anne just got hit with a ton of bills and doesn't have enough to cover either operation. Please, donate whatever you can to help save Ella's leg. (Or send a check if you don't want to use Wepay. Message me for the name and address.) Every little bit helps.

And if you can't donate, please repost. Friends-of-friends have already been a huge help.

Donations are now more than enough to cover Ella's medical expenses. Thank you all so, so much.

If you want to link to or repost this from any other platform, please do. Thank you to those of you who are getting the word out, and many, many thanks to those who have donated.

Send questions about donations to morgansong, who's handling the fundraising for Anne. She can no longer accept Paypal donations because Paypal is having issues. Crisis averted.

Updates on Ella's condition and photos are in the comments: Sunday evening, Tuesday morning, and Tuesday evening. She's hanging in there. Brave little kitty. We've raised $1,548 $2,178 so far*--and by "us," I mean all of us, those who've donated and those who've spread the word. Thank you all so, so much. The kindness of strangers has been wonderful. The Internet has made the world a smaller place, and sometimes, it's a smaller, better place.

The "why didn't someone shoot back?!?" is killing me.

Crazy dream theatre: the Carl edition.

So, I was at padparadscha's house, with Carl and several other people that we know. There had been a meteor shower the night before, which was the topic of discussion as we hung out in her garage.

Carl being Carl, he was poking around an aquarium that had once been the home of something small and fuzzy. He turned over a hollowed out log, and poked at the glowing bit of goo he found underneath it. With a bit of dismay, he yelled out "Hey! It's stuck to me!" and when we saw it we all knew that he was screwed; it was of course, a piece of Blob that had had somehow gotten into the tank during the meteor shower.

Even though we knew cold would stop it, we did try dousing it with pure grain alcohol so Carl could try to get it off his hands. No such luck, but in a drunken stupor it did stop eating his hands.

I woke up as we were breaking the news to Carl that we'd have dip his hands in liquid nitrogen and then chop them off to save his life. He was rather upset about this, but we pointed out it was his own fault for poking a Blob, when everyone knows better.

I woke up before the hand chopping, and still the question on my mind is, who the hell is Carl? I don't know, and have never known, anyone named Carl. If I ever meet this Carl, I certainly hope he's up on his Blob knowledge, otherwise, he's screwed.

Sweet radioactive zombie Jesus!

The OGRE Designer's Edition kickstarter has gone over $140K, in three days. The goal was $20K to get it to the printers.

I love that game. OGRE was the 3rd game I bought. The first was GEV, set in the same universe. I've picked up all the editions since then, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the new edition.

The 2nd game I picked up was Chitin:I I'm still sad that they never published more games in this setting as well.

Ah, the games of my youth, giant insects eating each other to avoid starvation and giant cybertanks flinging nukes at each other. Good times... good times...

Damn refurbished appliances?

Lethal lagomorph
Hey all,

The SO and I are looking at getting a washer/dryer set for an amount of money somewhat less than the insane prices for new models.

Anyone have any recommendations for refurbished appliance stores? I checked Craigslist, and the stores I found there tended to have really mixed reviews :/

What is the weirdest question you’ve ever been asked?

After I graduated from high school I went to Ocean City, MD for senior week with my friends. One evening I went to an under 21 club and when I was in the restroom using a urinal a guy walked up to the one next to me and asked if I was "a one or two".

I have no idea WTF that means, and when asked, none of my gay friends know either. I finished up, and beat a hasty retreat because that was the 2nd weird thing at that club in under 1/2 an hour.

Offish topic, other games: STO

City of Heroes, -Spectrum
I've been feeling a little burned out on CoH lately, and since STO is now F2P, I'm playing it again. I'm Thiros@biomekanic over there, and would be happy to team up with anyone from here.

On a tangent note, I'm loving the new Duty Officer system, and man, would I love to see a port of that to CoH, especially for villains. That would be awesome: "Minion mission: Go shake down an orphanage: Rewards: 100xp, 100 Inf, and Uncommon salvage: Orphan tears." As much as I like Day Job bonuses and titles, this system really rocks.

I've got it!

I think I've got it figured out; the Republican employment plan is to create a new department of Uterine Security. I guess I'll just have to get a job as a uterine monitor.

"Excuse me ma'am, are you using your lady parts strictly for reproductive purposes and not for happy fun times, even if you're married? Also, do you have your Federally mandated supply of aspirin nearby at all times?"

And soon there shall be 31...

A while ago I lost the rather large filling in my lower right molar, the one in the very back of the row.

A few days ago, it started to be really sensitive, so I finally got in contact with the OHSU student dental clinic to get something done about it.

5 hours in the chair later (as is nothing unusual, there were problems dealing with my mouth (you're welcome peanut gallery), one temp filling and one temp root canal later we were done.

Based on the x-rays, and the extent to which the cavity that lead the filling fall out in the first place, getting a full root canal and crown is not the best option. To do so, they'd need to grind down the bone around the tooth, which would in turn weaken the root of the tooth in front of it... which already has a crown and has enough issues of it's own.

So, The Plan(TM) is that when my tax refund comes in, I'll spend part of that money getting an extraction and an implant. It's been a decent 44 year run number 32 and I'm sorry to see you go.

Right now though, the work done yesterday hurts like Hell and I wish I'd just have had them extract the thing instead of trying to save it, since that's not an option now.
